Wealth is health
Just think about this: The world’s UHNWI population ($30 million-plus) increased by 162,191 between 2021 and 2026 – equivalent to 89 new UHNWIs every day – bringing the global total to 713,626, per Knight Frank.
The U.S. alone created 41 percent of all new UHNWIs, lifting its total global share from 33 percent to 35 percent between 2021 and 2026. Asia Pacific holds nearly 31 percent of global UHNWIs, with China remaining the second-largest wealth hub globally and India claiming the most billionaires in the region. Europe – the hub of luxury manufacturing – continues to be a reliable source of wealth generation.
Equally dazzling, the global billionaire population reached 3,110 in 2026, with Asia Pacific home to the largest share.
In the next decade, expect more than $35 trillion in wealth to change hands from one generation to the next and spouse to spouse, much of it in the care of women. Even ongoing wars in the Middle East and Eastern Europe – and rising energy prices – have not failed to deter record stock market gains.
Amidst this, let’s acknowledge that younger millennial and Gen Z shopping behavior does not mirror the previous generations, leading to a loss of an estimated 60 million luxury consumers – from 400 million to 340 million globally – in the years from 2022 to 2025, per a Bain survey.
No surprises then that the big conglomerates – LVMH, Kering, Richemont, Hermès, Chanel, Burberry, Giorgio Armani and Prada, among others – are rethinking their market strategy. Are their sales increases due to frequent price hikes versus more unit sales? It’s a similar story across luxury sectors – price appreciation over volume sales.
Forced scarcity and gimmicky collabs may not cut it anymore as customers prefer tribal affinity with brand, genuine relationships, feel-good experiences and being part of the story over anything else.
Authenticity and trust are now mentioned frequently as customer asks – which means that the two are in short supply. Customer loyalty can no longer be taken for granted.

Know your customer
